Copper Rise Consulting

Sharing our learning, insights and practical tips

Did you know?

That people have preferences when it comes to how they would like to receive company communications?  Some need to read e-mail, memos or postings on the bulletin board, others prefer to receive information by hearing about it in a meeting or having someone tell them.  These communication “intake” modes come from our “inborn preferences” that are part of our personality type – as defined by Carl Jung, and the Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs team.  Some people are more energized by talking and interacting; others are more comfortable reading and then thinking it over.   One preference is not better than the other – they are equally valid ways of receiving information.  If you wish to be effective in your communication with employees, peers, clients or the boss – remember to use both forms of expression!

Learning to understand and work with different personalities is key to being a successful in any organization.  A valuable tool to help leaders and teams gain this knowledge is the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI). Copper Rise provides both workshops and individual assessments to help organizations develop new understandings that lead to improved cooperation and relationships.

A Practical Tip – Are Your Policies Patriotic?

As the war on terrorism wages on, it may be a good time to review your policies on military, reservist and National Guard duty. While most employers support employees called to duty,  not everyone is aware that these employees may also have reinstatement and/or benefit continuation rights while they are away. The rights vary based on the reason for the military related absence, but can include the right to an unpaid leave of absence for up to 4 years (sometimes 5 years) for enlistment or induction into the military.  The national laws date back to World War I, and became prominent after the Viet Nam Conflict – they are meant to protect those who serve our country from returning home to unemployment.

About Copper Rise Consulting

People have often asked where the name “Copper Rise Consulting” originates.  If is actually the name of the forested 5 acres that gently slopes towards (or “rises” away from) the bordering Copper Creek  - it is where Sandy Barnes, founder and owner of the firm, lives and operates the business. The name has significance in that it reflects certain values – finding bliss in one’s chosen work and the achievement of goals.

Copper Rise Consulting provides a full range of organization development, human resources and facilitation services.  As these newsletters are distributed over the next few months, examples of the firm’s projects and accomplishments will be shared to give you a sense of our capabilities. We have developed compensation, performance review and employment programs, drafted policies and handbooks, conducted team building and planning workshops – and recently completed writing 3 scenarios about the future of Cowlitz County.
